This is a policy brief aimed at providing research-based recommendations on school language policy in Pakistan. The document has been developed for policymakers and practitioners who aim to make language decisions that create enabling conditions for students. The pages that follow will explain the apprehensions about the current school language policy, discuss its impact on a child's academic and social growth, and share recommendations that ensure a child-centered approach to education. It will also reflect on the foreseeable challenges which may arise in the process. The hope is to present a case for re-examining Pakistan’s school language policy in light of prioritizing the child’s social, academic, and cognitive needs first.
