Given their central role in the teaching and learning process, teachers are critical agents in achieving gender equality within and through education. This background research synthesizes the evidence base around the role of teachers in promoting gender equality, discussing policy approaches that can help teaching and learning be gender-responsive and support teachers in being agents of gender equality. With this evidence in mind, the paper also raises considerations for GPE’s engagement on this issue.
