This booklet hopes to improve the understanding of the roles that schools play and could possibly play in orientating pupils to working life. It will do this by providing a general state-of-policy and state-of-practice review of how schools deal with working life within different education systems and within different socio-economic and cultural environments. The booklet will look at evidence of experiences in different approaches to work orientation and the lessons that could be learned from these. It will also identify alternative or complementary options for education to deal with working life. It will discuss their merits, implications and possible constraints, and provide some guidelines for policy-development and for the planning and implementation of such programmes.
