The National Service for Rural Apprenticeship (SENAR) started its activities in 1993. It stated its mission as the development of rural occupational training and social promotion activities for men and women who work in rural areas, as a contribution to upgrade their occupational performance, social integration, improvement of life quality and full awareness of citizenship. SENAR has offered interesting solutions to occupational education/training and social promotion in rural Brazil. It also has offered new alternatives in the field of management and partnership, starting from a different point in relation to its first generation predecessors.
